I have recently upgraded a laptop with the new Windows XP Pro SP2
patches, and suddenly Java won't render applications, though it will
render applets. I have discovered this error message for the first
time today... I assume that it is a piece to the puzzle...
It is a crash of the virtual machine triggered by a problem in native code. Java not only does not render your GUI, it simply stopped executing.
In short, this is bad. Very bad. Because there isn't much one can do.
- Check Sun's bug parade if this is a known VM crash and if they have a workaround.
- Reinstall Java or better yet
- update to the latest version
- Install the latest graphics driver for your graphics card, or
- if that doesn't help, try an older one (if you can find one).
- Grap all the latest patches/updates from MS, particular the ones for Windows' graphics system.
Good luck
