java update

Everything I can find says you have to be root to install/upgrade JRE
on Linux. Is that true?

I want to get up to 1.5

java version "1.4.2"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2)
Classic VM (build 1.4.2, J2RE 1.4.2 IBM build cxia32142ifx-20090728
(SR13 FP1) (JIT enabled: jitc))
