APPC/CPI-C from Java

Has anyone successfully made APPC or CPI-C calls (SNA) from Java?

Currently, the server that we are using may be either Host Integration
Server or another, similar, solution (like Attachmate).

I am thinking I have to go down the JNI path...but is there a better
way?

I also am unclear as to how a client application "finds" the host
integration server or similar product from the calls - right now I'm
looking at CPI-C because the calls are more straightforward compared
to APPC.

Any help appreciated.
