javax.comm with infrared ( ircomm2k ) under Windows 2k/XP

Hi

I am trying to use ircomm under windows 2k Pro and XP home, with Java
1.4.2 (and the latest javax.comm).
the SerialDemo sample from Sun is not working ( eg no char appears on
the receiving end ).
In fact not a single java programm I tried worked.

Any clue anyone ?

there is a thread on this on the ircomm2k sourceforge site, with
people reporting the similar problem

a few details :
Of course, the systray icon shows me the PC are in range.
the PortMon utility from sysinternals.com shows the char are sent to
the serial port.
the COM port are 6 on one end and 7 on the othe.r
