No, the idea is the following:

About 1300 meters from the S pole (P0), you can go 1000m towards south pole (P1). If you walk 1000 m towars east, you will stand again at point P1. If you now go 1000 m north, you will be at qour start-point P0.

This also works when the "diameter" (sorry, I'm not sure if this is the correct word in English) of the earth at point P1 is 500 m or 333m or 250m...
