What is the selling point of J2EE?Long term support.
Send them to <http://java.sun.com/j2ee/compatibility_1.4.html> and
point out that some of the best are free. Contrast that to asp
servers.
Point out that Microsoft has abandoned support for most of the
languages they have produced. Microsoft BASIC, Fortran and COBOL have
disappeared. Visual Basic classic, one of the most widely used
languages ever, has been totally abandoned. In contrast, IBM still
supply and support Fortran, PL/1 and RPG which they first introduced
in the late fifties and early sixties, well before Microsoft existed.
After Sun, IBM is the major force behind Java. Tell them if Sun and
IBM go bankrupt there is still Oracle and the open source Apache
Foundation that can step in with a JVM and J2EE implementations.
Emphasise that there are fully-fledged IDEs for Java from Borland,
Eclipse, IBM, IntelliJ, NetBeans, Oracle and Sun many of which are
free. Contrast that to .NET and rub it in by telling them about Visual
Basic classic which can only be obtained from eBay.
