Was I implying that? Oh, maybe in a very mild way, in the sense
that I do think the original nitpick was justified

No public nitpick of me is ever justified, period.

Not even if you're wrong?

Answer me honestly: If you make an assertion in a newsgroup post that
is false, do you want it to remain there as false?

You say stuff about the "Official Truth" that you fear others seeing
about you when your intelligence is called into question. Consider
these scenarios:

#1
Twisted: [false assertion about Java]
Usenet: [crickets]
Reader: Hey wait..he's wrong. Hmm...maybe I shouldn't ask him to work
for me.

#2
Twisted: [false assertion about Java]
Usenet: [corrects the error]
Twisted: Oh hey, you're right. I made a mistake but I've got it now.
Reader: Well, he made a mistake, but at least he knows how to learn
and take criticism.

#3
Twisted: [assertion about Java]
Usenet: [false attempt to correct]
Twisted: [polite, patient correction with citation]
Reader: He knows his shit, hire him!

#4
Twisted: [assertion about Java]
Usenet: [false attempt to correct]
Twisted: WHAAAAAAA!!!!
Reader and Usenet: Twisted is a tool.

So as much as I admire your desire to not look like an idiot, I would
humbly suggest that getting bent out of shape over every criticism
ever has a somewhat opposite effect.
