As for choice of vendor,
well, there are constraints imposed by, hm, "local politics" is
probably the way to say it. <shrug>

Oh well, all right then: It's okay to imply that people I work
with and might unaccountably feel some sense of loyalty toward
are dishonest and/or incompetent, as long as you aren't actually
insulting *me*. Got it.

If procurement decisions there are being based on anything but honest
comparisons of the price and value proposition of various
alternatives, then you must face the fact that some kind of cronyism
is going on.

As I understand it, the people making decisions have chosen to
standardize, so to speak, on one vendor, probably as a way to make
their decision-making process easier and improve the odds of getting
good service from the vendor. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
Maybe it's cronyism, for suitable values of "cronyism", though
I wouldn't have said so. <shrug>

Also, if we're discussing any school board on planet Earth, you must
face that fact. :P

I'm not sure how school boards come into a discussion of purchasing
decisions by a university. Maybe things work differently in the
part of North America where you live.
