Well, it has a status line that contains a short description of
what the function keys do, but it has lots more keyboard-combos
to do all sorts of non-obvious stuff. Don't know if you'd like
it if you knew it. Probably not, just because I was fond of it.

probably has the same sort of "TUI" found in Edit, ...
Quite the opposite: it was really usable + useful!
I'm sure you can find screenshots and further information
for both "norton commander" and "midnight commander"
using google.
It by far predates DOS's crappy edit+qbasic.
