Does the POSIX standard say [something irrelevant]? That would
surprise me.

That's neither here nor there.

In any case, it's not relevant, because the feature I've been
describing *is* implemented on the Linux systems I've used.

It is clearly not something a user can assume will be present on any
POSIX-compliant Unix system, which makes it irrelevant here.

Since I have recent experience with Linux and -- as far
as I can tell -- you don't

Perhaps because the systems I used didn't have it; see above. Nothing
guarantees that they would. Or perhaps because they *did*, but its
presence was one more of those unobvious features that "everyone knows
about" so nobody bothers to document it properly* or make it clearly
visible in the UI as an option.

*includes making sure that central index documentation giving a
feature overview points to the particular feature. Since the systems
in question tend to completely lack *any* central index documentation
giving *any* kind of overview of the system, it goes without saying
that nothing on these systems is ever documented properly. :P
