Dunno, reinstall? What exactly fails? As I said, Sun's own test at http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml
fails, and this is immediately after I install the JRE. If I run this same
test using Java 6 on Windows XP, the test passes.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled three times. Still it fails.
I'm wondering if I need to wait for Java 6 Update 10?
I can't say for sure, but from older days the hearsay was, that for
certain changes to become effective it required a reboot. Are you
sure, you at least stopped the browser entirely (no more mention of
it in the process manager before re-opening it?) or actually rebooted
the machine?
This is just a routine-question, so please don't be offended if you'd
rather bitten your leg of than post your complaint without first having
tried that... :-)
It's still somewhat surprising that XP would be less reboot-requiring
than vista.
