Are you referring to Java 6 Update 10? If so, which OS? I have it on Vista
and the Quick Starter is grayed-out as well. I also do not know why.
If you check the docs for JQS, you'll find that it is deliberately
disabled for Vista. Supposedly because Vista has its own application
startup boosting mechanisms...

JRE 6 Update 10 RC1 loads fine for me. (Note that I have a
sufficiently well-equipped machine to run Vista in the first
place. That means, in the real world, at least 1GB of RAM, and at least 3.0
GHz of CPU clock speed, and preferably you want 2GB and some sort of multi-
core CPU.)
