There are two social forces influencing the discussion of English grammar in this group. Mark Space mentioned both - (in)tolerance and the pursuit of knowledge. Intolerance was really not the force at play in this thread.
Stefan Ram's highly technical discussion of the matter, and John B. Matthews' very informative reference, do not criticize but educate. They did not evince intolerance for the error, but discussed objectively and usefully a linguistic phenomenon that is relevant to this group precisely because of its international participation.
Arne's advice to be tolerant is, of course, fair and proper. It is clear that this particular instance, where very interesting information was politely presented with obvious intent to benefit everyone, falls within the guideline. I'm an American with a lifelong armchair interest in English grammar, and I found what Stefan and John presented new and fascinating.
