We have just made the first public release of h3270, a program that
provides access to IBM 3270 hosts from within a web browser
(http://h3270.sourceforge.net).
h3270 is a a server-side Java application that renders host screens in
pure HTML (no applets, as in many other web-to-host adapters). It
features a highly configurable layout engine that is based on regular
expressions. While it runs as a Servlet today, it can easily be adapted
to work as a Portlet within a Portal Server, allowing for integration
with other web-based applications at the user-interface level. Besides
its web-to-host functionality, h3270 can also be used as a
general-purpose API for accessing IBM mainframe hosts from Java.
On the host side, h3270 uses the s3270 program by Paul Mattes as a
protocol engine, talking to the host via TN3270 / TCP/IP. s3270 is
written in C, and portable to all major operating systems.
For further information, including screenshots and documentation, have a
look at the project web site at http://h3270.sourceforge.net.
