Eclipse is slow -- what's the alternative?

I'm starting to get tired of Eclipse -- it's slow and pauses frequently.

Does anyone know if there is a way to speed it up? (I'm already giving it
plenty of memory). Are any speed improvements in the works?

Is it worth switching to another IDE?
