Eclipse - error - cannot be resolved to type

using Eclipse 3.3 on windows XP
also using ClearCase,
checked in a file into ClearCase through Eclipse clearcase plug in
functionality and now several classes cannot resolve a class to a type
even though no changes were made to those files or related files. The
classes are there and there is no problem with them.
