Problem using scp to copy a directory structure

I'm trying to use the scp task to copy a directory structure from my
local computer to a remote host.

The task successfully copies the root directory, makes the first
subdirectory, copies all the files in that subdirectory, then freezes.
There is no network traffic, disk activity or CPU load while it is
frozen. I can end the task with control-c.

I've tried it with two different hosts and several different directory
structures.

Any ideas? Thanks.
