Newbie wants to get started

Howdy:

I'm new at Java (buthave done alot of Fortran, Basic, Pascal, Modula2 &
various assembler programming)

I'd like to get started with Java, and wondered what IDE I should use
(ECLIPSE, JBuilder, BlueJay, etc).

My interest is in mapping applications (OpenMap), Radio Frequency modeling,
simulation & analysis tools like Radio Mobile, TAP, Hertz Warfare, etc.

Any pointers would be welcome
