Need to write up a justification document for using Java

Hello
Our company have developed a client server product which historically only
featured a Windows client. The Windows client was written in C++ but we
have made a move to the web and our client is now a Java applet. (it only
uses Java 1.1 features so works in most browsers).
Someone in the organisation (not even a programmer) is making noises about
..NET and so I have been asked to carry out a comparison between the pros and
cons of using Java and .NET. If we went .NET route would probably use
something like C sharp or C++.
Personally I am not very keen on .NET and never have been.
I am really looking for some ammunition. What plus points can I put forward
for Java as opposed to .NET? Also you better give me the -ve's too.
I obviously have some idea about this but want to hear other peoples views.
Angus
