Or better still, support. Your competitors and crackers can
never 'steal' that.
..when it is their own hardware
doing that number crunching?
If OTOH, the focus is on the number crunching itself, perhaps
you should look to shift it back to the commercial server as
Mark Rafn was suggesting - that at least justifies charging the
user for the CPU cycles it takes. And it potentially offers the
user of a low powered lap-top (for e.g.), to access some powerful
computing machinery - a definite advantage over the applet
or otherwise 'client-side' application.
But requoting what you said earlier..
"ok, i could hire an entire machine... but that is expensive
for a one-man company..."
1) Just about any computer based remote resource
that is available, is available in different sizes, to suit
the traffic/need. I am guessing that you do not have
to make a deal for an entire machine, but perhaps a
'partitioned' part of it. And ultimately..
2) 'You have to spend money, to make money'.
People would pay me for the knowledge I incorporated in the program.
I'd have to spend SOME money to make money... not too much...
quote James Abbott Mc Neill Whistler (1834-1903), when asked "for 2 days'
labour you ask 200 guineas ?": 'No I ask it for the knowledge of a
lifetime'.
thnx for the input. :-)
