Someone asked about Celtk as a platform for an app, mentioned video as a requirement. I said, "No can do, unless....". Sixty minutes later (would have been less if I knew how to read) I was watching a movie in a Celtk window in an embedded QuickTime widget, thanks to:
http://quicktimetcl.sourceforge.net/
(And won't Mastenbrook be thrilled to know I have added another library! Of course he will say I am lying....)
Look, case closed kiddies: "CL+Tcl/Tk, perfect together"
Ah. There /is/ a fly in the ointment: QuickTimeTcl is supported only on windows and mac os x. But that might just be because the developer did not get round to that platform.
Oops. Or it might be because Apple does not provide a Quicktime for Linux. I googled too fast and saw "Quicktime for Linux", but that turns out to be a pale imitation unrelated to QT (so they really should not have picked that name (but I still googled too fast)).
OK, I am busy car-shopping next two days, but then I will ask c-l.net for a standalone project for Celtk. Should we call it Cells-Tk to stay in parallel with Cells-Gtk and be more self-documenting/findable?
How about something grandiose, like Common Lisp Application Builder? Oops, taken. Die, CLAB! Die!!! One window?! Puh-leeeeeezzzze. We could be CL App Frmework, CL App Platform... ah, no, we want to hook our wagon to Tcl/Tk's fame and fortune, should not hide that heritage.
I never felt Cells should get top or any billing as in Cells-Gtk. Lisp-Tk? Taken? Too close to LTk? Common Lisp Tk? TkCL? Nice, package can be its own nickname. Tie-in with wxCL. Looks like a salt, always a good thing.
Questions? Comments?
If we advertise this on c.l.tcl we may attract new users to Lisp. They already understand Cells in a way.
