The global behavior (a simple hang) has been consistent and unfailing. Only recently did I dig as deep as the make-socket call, but again every time i see the same thing: a 30-60second pause at make-socket, which then returns and the rest of the code chugs on a few more yards before a final hang.
- reference to hostname vs. IP address is not always an indication of
underlying problems. Your system seems to be able to map hostname to
IP address in both cases.
