My only complaints of ABLE were lack of File Menu, and asdf directory
with some popular libraries preinstalled. Phil has both planned for
the next release of ABLE. If that happens I don't see any obstacles
for new users under windows to start lisping if they don't like to pay
for commercial offerings and hate heap limits. I don't know how good
is sbcl threading under windows (it might be great already I don't
know) for running hunchentoot, which is very popular dependencies, but
I'm sure that sbcl folks will improve it if there are enough sbcl
users under windows.
So thanks to Phil and folks from sbcl and clozure cl, free lisp ide
under windows will be very soon - case closed.

I took a look at ABLE, and while it does look promising I think it's
somewhat limited in scope. For example it doesn't seem to intend to
provide, say, a GUI designer or a debugger. ABLE would be fine for a
new Lisper's first steps, but when he moves on to more interesting/
more complex types of applications he still has to hunt down for
libraries and tools, without an adequate one-stop solution for his or
her requirements.
No offense, but I believe the case is far from closed :(

With built in file menu and asdf directory it would be great start for
newcomers and *essential* features like debugger and maybe asdf-
install could be added later. Neither Phil nor sbcl/ccl folks have
backing by big bucks to bundle all the drums and bells. If one wants
IDE with all the candies there are vendors offering them or befriend
with Emacs.
