sessions - identifying individuals?

At the moment registered users on my website login via a form
which establishes $_SESSION['uid'] and $_SESSION['pwd'] from
mysql and the post $uid and $pwd.
How would I redirect a particular user to a different page than other
users ie. if $_SESSION['uid']=chris go to this page?
I can't get it to work.
