sending email from php page

Hi, I wonder if you could give me some pointers.
1.A user fills in a record,name date etc
2.when he has submitted the record into mysql table an email is sent to him.
3.the email will have a link on it which he should click in order to confirm
the data.
4. clicking on the link would change a column in his record from 0 to 1 or
no to yes etc.
5.then the record can be viewed by others.
6. If he does not confirm in 24hrs the record will be deleted.
If you could point me at a resource,this would be great.
