querying OLAP

This is probably a basic question, but I'll ask anyway:

how is it possible to query an OLAP cube (on a MS SQL 2000 server) using
PHP? I'd really like some sample code as well - can be short - just to show
the main point. (But if the code showed how to connect to the server and
explained a little about the query line (I guess in SQL or MDX or ...?) it
would be even better.)

If it's not possible to do this, then what is the best similar language to
use and why? (In that case a code snippet would be appreciated here too.)
