application permissions

Hi, I'm developing an application with different type of users that can
access different type of data. At the moment 3 groups are required.
What I need is a simple and effective way to show to the users only the
information their group is allowed to. I don't want to use a lot of 'if
....' a would like to use a function or a class. I alredy did something
for another application but I think there could be a better way. An
example of what I need is: a low level user should see the list of
contacts but shouldn't be able to click on some icons (i.e. create a
new invoice for that contact).

Thanks.

Nik
