Refreshing a text file

I am looking for a simple PHP script which just refreshes a text file,
if such a thing is possible.

The text file gets updated every now and then. However, if it is stuck
in a cache, can load an old content, and that is not good.

Is there such a way to refresh it? Without bringing the file onto the
screen, that is.
