Yep, lose Dreamweaver 8 and learn how to make database connection calls
by hand/code.
Dreamweaver is great for mocking up / doing basic websites. If you get
drawn into their style of database connections, you will a) learn very
little and b) get entirely confused whenever you move to PHP scripts that
don't involve Dreamweaver.
If you're really into keeping Dreamweaver, take this question to a
Dreamweaver support forum. The message you indicated has nothing to do
with PHP or MySQL on their own.
