Which programs are the best alternative these days for people developing web-solutions based on xhtml, php and mysql, and who enjoys Dreamweaver’s combination of wisiwyg design editor and scripting support?

I don't understand why people need this WYSIWYG interface. What is wrong with a simple code editor plus your browser which you flick between to see the changes? WYSIWYG 'editors' usually just create more problems.
