Private Area help

Hi All,

Probably a question been asked many times by novices like me with little
knowledge !!!!

I'm setting up a web site for a charity, web pages done, phpbb2 working, now
here's this bit I can't do !!

I notice when you logon to some www members/private area you have a popup
box asking for user name & password, how do I do this?

I have a mysql database available, as I would like certain pages available
to certain members, disable individual members etc etc.

Can anyone suggest a good program I can use free, shareware, or even a small
charge?

Would prefer if was simple to setup like phpbb2 !!!!!!!

Many thanks for your time

Mark
