html and php data access

Hi all

I have a form with various text inputs. Whe the user types something into,
say, the name field, once the user tabs off, or clicks a button next to that
field, I want to update the other fields without sending it to another form
(or itself). Is there such a way and if so, has someone have an example I
can follow?
