try enterring:
/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql -h localhost -u root
I get:
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through
socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)
I will read up a little more I guess. One day I might actually
get some progress.
