I do my part, but never by responding to the spammers. There still are
providers who take their abuse desk seriously and try to keep their own
servers spam-free. Of course complaining to Google or Yahoo is useless,
but in many other cases a short note to abuse@* _does_ help to at least
make the spammer's life harder.


Then you're only doing half the job. Letting other potential spammers know it isn't appreciated here cuts down on a lot of other posts.
