The only other difference I can think of is the @ sign and " double
quotations are in opposite places for US and UK keyboards. Whenever
I'm in the US and try and put the double quotes in I get an @ symbol
instead and vice versa.

Do you have the euro sign in the US on your keyboards? It now shares
number 4 for with the dollar sign for us. you have to do a ctrl, alt
and 4 to get it.
