phpinfo() question about mysql=shared

My hosting firm uses virtual servers indicating each mysql server is
separate. I see this on two of my accounts:
'--with-mysql=shared,/PATH/'
and the other one of my accounts at the same hosting company says:
'--with-mysql=/PATH/'
What does the SHARE mean?
