I don't mind when people link to a specific function in the manual. It
answers the question quickly, and lets me find the answer myself - with a
definate place to find the answer. A general php url doesn't really help.

I've also been totally stuck, exhausting every possible search I can think
of, and tried turning to newsgroups for help - only to get RTFM. It's
frustrating I agree, particularly when you do find the answer it is dead
easy.

I jumped onto an IRC channel once asking a question, and got told to RTFM
quite rudely - so I jumped out and logged in with a different name. I
proceeded to answer everyones questions, including a question from the
person who told me to RTFM. It made me feel like a better person because I
didn't resort to the same no brainer RTFM. I answered his question, and
realised that his knowledge was actually very limited.

Someone's been saying "it's only usenet" - very true.
