Well, that problem was easily resolved with a Pro FTP client, and
PEAR/PEARWebInstaller.php is now public under htdocs

I did have the following:
Fatal error: Class 'PEAR_Frontend_CLI' not found in
/usr/local/php5/PEAR/Command.php on line 144

and I see I'm not alone. Any suggestions ?
I''m actually using .htaccess to force PHP5 on my webhost.
