Oops - pushed the button too quickly.

I doubt you're going to find much with an API written in PHP. And I've never seen a PHP chatroom server that isn't web based.

It could be done, I guess. But I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble. And you'd still need some type of client - either a browser or another program (like MSN does).
