Or perhaps I should say Ladies and Gentlemen
I am grateful for the help you have given me today and yesterday,
but I have always been told that the only stupid question is the
one you don't ask.
Please indulge me for a minute and continue reading.
I started writing Assembler on punch cards in 1964 to mainframes,
then FORTRAN on punch cards to main frames, next circa 1980 I
started programming on my Sinclair ZX80 in BASIC and machine code. Circa
1984 I started programming on my first IBM PC
BASIC
As time went on Pascal, dBase, FoxPro, (yes they both had languages
as well as database) clipper (the version was called summer of 86)
and then when Windows and the internet came around Delphi.
I have made a living as a contract programmer for the last 22 years.
I taught myself every language I know I had to because I'm dyslexic
and can not learn like "Normal Folks"
While I was using Clipper I used to help out on lots of newsgroups
and I never told anyone.
"Your questions fall into the DUH!!! category."
"Your question(s) are pretty much an FAQ in the WYSIFA Forums."
"Before I tried to program anything in php, I read the manual."
"I know you are just learning and starting out, but this was rather
basic." "What a cleverly selected Subject:!"
My questions are probably stupid - at least to all you "Experts"
But you know what? Real quick this all will click in my dyslexic
little mind and then we'll see who's the export
Len Bell
IT's not that your questions are stupid, it's that you obviously
haven't even bothered looking at the manual to discover the very
basics.
If you really did teach yourself all those languages, then you
should be at least starting with this one by making an effort to
discover the very basic steps, before asking for help.
obvious you know nothing about dyslexia.
I can't read paragraphs at a time my mind only grasps small bursts of
written information and then I get confused. I teach myself by
nibbling at this then that and sooner or later the entire language
comes into focus. A function definition is ok but a chapter on a
topic is beyond me.
"If you really did teach yourself all those languages" What do I need
to give you my resume?
You know if my questions offend you why bother replying?
Is it just that you can't feel big unless you make someone else feel
small?
Len Bell
It is quite obvious that you know nothing about good manners. I was not the
one who called the questions DOH questions, I was just trying to explain why
you weren't getting any good replies.
You seem to have no problem reading the replies on this group, and being
very abusive in your responses.
I wish you luck in your enterprises, I think you will need it, because you
haven't made any friends here.
