Help opening a php file

Hello,
Sorry if my terminology is not correct but I am kind of new to php and
newsfeeds and need some help with getting this to work.
Ok, when I go to any website that has a newsfeed that has a xml or rss
(graphic link) to it I d/l it and upload it to my server and rename
test.php. (Yes my server can run php scripts) When I type in the path
(http://www.test.com/test.php) everytime it gives me a Parse error: parse
error, unexpected T_STRING. Can anyone show me how to get this to work.
