Start a program which will remain in execution after the script.

Hi!

I am writing some kind of control panel to monitor and do some
configuration stuff remotely for a server running a custom application
i can not change or modify.

Some of the configurations took quite long time to be executed,
probably more then 30 second.
So i must find a way to launch a program from the php script which will
remain in execution even after the timeout limit or after the user
closes the browser, stopping the HTTP connection.

Could anyone give me some advice?

Thanks in advance.
