UTF8 on DBI with Perl

Hi

I'm using DBI with Perl.

The default character set is 'latin1' - more particulary
'latin1_swedish_ci'.

I need one field to be UTF8.

I've tried

Example text CHARACTER SET utf8

but it dies not pick up the European characters.

Any ideas?
