Void Context Error

I am getting the following error:

"Useless use of a variable in void context at ... line
306"

When I look at line 306 all I find is a "#" (comment)
so I assume the error is somewhere else and perl is
just getting lost trying to figure out what's going
on.

What exactly does the error message mean and what
should I be looking for?
