Installing Perl

Hello Perl Programmers,

I have only recently learned about the perl language. To get a better
feel for perl, I downloaded the (I am working on Windows XP) Windows
AS Package of Active Perl version 5.8.7.815. After unzipping the
downloaded file, I have a file called Installer (of type MS-DOS Batch
file). I double clicked on that and what I got was a dos window that
appeared and then disappeared soon after, and this was too quick for me
to even see what was written on the dos window. What happened there? I
dont know....is my installation complete? if so, what path did it put
perl in? how do i get started?

Please, any help here is really appreciated.
Thanx

.
