Re: How do I match a string and also assign the match to another variable?

But you said you did know how to do part of it. You know how to match,
or so you say. You know how to search and replace, or so you say. So
why can't you post your best attempt at *trying* to solve your problem?
Beyond that, why can't you even post sample input and output? Why are
those simple tasks so far beyond your willingness to help us help you?

Have you even *tried* to read the documentation? You know your
question involves Regular Expressions, so why didn't you try reading
the Regular Expression Tutorial that comes with Perl? Why do you
insist on having other people read the documentation to you?

Paul, clarifying your thought is helpful to me, rather than you just
whining about the posting. And I say this not in malice.

I have noticed you do it to a lot of people, and just explaining
yourself like above is helpful. A short whine about the original post
is not, and nothing comes out of it other than some rude mails going
back and forth.

I know that many people get tired of telling newbies to post code,
etc., etc., and but just posting to insult the person isn't going to
help anyone. I have seen this from other people as well, and they just
want to get thier frustrations out. They neither educate nor help
anyone.
