Have you installed the Developer Tools from Apple Developer Connection?
http://connect.apple.com/
You have to download and install that toolset to get the compiler and libraries. They do not come installed natively on the make.

Yes I did, and the make failed on that as well. Which is why I'm stuck.

make had returned bad status, install seems impossible
