newer version of perl dbd-odbc not working with dates

the newer version of dbd-odbc (version 1.13) is giving a 'invalid
character value for cast specification' when dealing with a date field
in sql-server (2000) where dbd-odbc v 0.28 works ok. Is this a bug or
a feature in 1.13?
