Accessing MSDE from Unix and OS X

Hi, I'm new in this list...
I'm looking for the simplest way to read data stored in MSDE tables from Perl scripts running on Unix Tru64 (production machine) and - possibly- OS X (development machine). Any idea?
DBIx::MSSQLReporter seems to be a good candidate, but its installation requires DBD::ADO, which is only for Win32 machines.
