ANNOUNCE: WISH Supernotepad 1.2.3
by David McClamrock <mcclamrock@locl.net>
Based on Tk NotePad 0.5.0 by Joseph Acosta
and "textedit.tcl" by Eric Foster-Johnson
Available for download at "Pa Penguin's Icebox"

A couple of bugs found and fixed in the "Replace (Multiple)" feature that
came in with version 1.2. Here's the full announcement for version 1.2,
with the number changed to 1.2.3.

WISH Supernotepad 1.2.3 is a simple text and HTML editor with a
stripped-down, "Notepad-like" menu interface. It is designed to be totally
accessible to the ordinary computer user, while incorporating some features
not often found in simple programs written for ordinary users. WISH
Supernotepad 1.2.3 requires Tcl and Tk 8.4 or greater.
In addition to standard text and HTML editing functions (including file
insertion, search and replace, quick list and table creation in HTML, and
more), WISH Supernotepad 1.2.3 can perform the following functions:
* Display of "Save changes?" indicator on title bar when unsaved text exists
* Unlimited undo and redo
* Simultaneous global search and replace of multiple expressions
* Single-click insertion of special characters (e.g., § © ¾ é) in text and
HTML
* Color selection and insertion of hexadecimal color codes into text or HTML
* Line number identification
* Word count
* Conversion of plain text to simple HTML
* Tcl/Tk program code creation (with automatic indentation), editing, and
instant test-running
* Printing with word wrap and specified margin width (on Unix-type systems
only)
Version 1.2 introduced simultaneous global search and replace of multiple
expressions (using the Tcl "string map" command). Single-click
special-character insertion and some HTML editing functions now work not
only in the main text widget but also in entry widgets (in the Find,
Replace, Link, etc. toplevels) and in the HTML Table Data Entry box, which
now contains a scrolling text widget and some buttons for simple text
editing. The HTML List entry widget now scrolls, too. In a minimal
concession to the convenience and popularity of toolbars, there is now a
row of skinny little buttons under the menubar in the main window. These
buttons display no images of floppy disks, file folders, scissors, or the
like, but they do contain text telling what they do: "New, Open, Insert,
Save, Print?, Cut, Copy, Paste, Undo, Redo, Special, Find, Replace, Quit."
There are also some changes and additions to the key bindings, and some
bugfixes.
If you try it, let me know if you (1) like it, (2) find still more bugs that
need to be fixed, or (3) both.
